How this calculator works
We divide the patio area by the face size of one paver (length × width ÷ 144 for square feet) and add about 7% for edge cuts and breakage. A standard 4×8-inch brick paver works out to about 4.5 per square foot.
What changes how much you need
- Add more waste (10–15%) for herringbone, circular, or diagonal patterns.

- Install an edge restraint so the pavers don’t spread over time.
- Mix pavers from multiple pallets as you lay so color variation blends.

About 4.5 — a 4×8-inch paver covers 0.222 sq ft, so 1 ÷ 0.222 ≈ 4.5 per square foot.
How much extra should I order?
7–10% for straight patterns; 10–15% for herringbone, diagonal, or circular layouts.
